Overview
Verses is a privacy-first, offline-first iPhone app focused on Bahá’i prayers, the Hidden Words, and reverent reading.
In plain language:
- Verses does not require an account.
- Verses does not sell personal data.
- Verses does not track you across apps or websites.
- Verses does not use third-party advertising SDKs.
- Verses does not use third-party analytics SDKs.
- Verses is designed so its core content works offline.
- Verses does not send your reading activity, bookmarks, search terms, filters, preferences, or reminder settings to my servers.
Other than Apple services involved in App Store or TestFlight distribution, and support emails that you choose to send, Verses does not make network requests.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Verses.
Information Collected
Information processed on your device
Verses is designed so that normal app use happens on your device. Search, filtering, bookmarks, preferences, reminders, and similar app features are handled locally on-device.
I do not maintain server-side storage of your reading activity or other normal in-app activity.
Verses does not use iCloud or another cloud sync service for your bookmarks, preferences, reminders, or reading activity.
Optional location access for Qiblih
If you choose to use the Qiblih compass feature, Verses may ask for permission to access your location. You may choose not to allow location access.
If you grant permission, location is used only to provide the Qiblih-related functionality you requested. Based on the current implementation, that location information is processed on-device and is not sent off-device by Verses.
Optional reminders and notifications
If you choose to enable reminders, Verses may ask for permission to send notifications. Reminders are optional, and you can turn them on or off and configure them in the app and in iPhone Settings.
Based on the current implementation, reminders use local notifications only and do not rely on remote push notifications.
Information you choose to send
If you contact support by email, I may receive the information you choose to include, such as:
- your name
- your email address
- the contents of your message
- any attachments or screenshots you send
Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your support request.
Apple App Store and TestFlight
If you download Verses from the App Store or participate in beta testing through TestFlight, Apple may collect or process information through its own systems, subject to Apple’s own privacy terms.
For example, if you use TestFlight, Apple may handle beta feedback, crash information, screenshots, or device details through Apple’s systems. Verses itself does not include third-party crash reporting or analytics SDKs.
How Information Is Used
Information is used only for limited purposes:
- to make on-device features work
- to provide Qiblih functionality if you grant location access
- to send reminders if you choose to enable them
- to respond to support emails you choose to send
- to review beta feedback or crash information made available by Apple through TestFlight
Verses is not designed to use your information for advertising, profiling, or cross-app or cross-website tracking.
Third-Party Services
Verses does not include third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or data brokers.
Apple provides the App Store and TestFlight services. If you contact support by email, email providers may process that message as part of normal email delivery.
I do not sell personal data.
Data Retention
Because Verses is designed to keep normal app data on your device, I generally do not retain data from normal app use.
On-device data such as bookmarks, preferences, and reminder settings remains on your device until you change it, remove it, or delete the app.
If you send a support email, I may keep that correspondence for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- respond to you
- troubleshoot issues
- maintain basic records
- comply with legal obligations if required
Apple may retain App Store or TestFlight information according to Apple’s own policies.
Children’s Privacy
Verses is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not require accounts and is intended to work offline, normal use of the app should not require a child to provide personal information.
If you believe a child has sent personal information through support email, please contact me and I will make reasonable efforts to delete it where appropriate.
Security
A key privacy measure in Verses is data minimization. Information used for core features is intended to stay on your device.
If you contact support, I use reasonable measures to protect the information I receive. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Users
Verses is published from the United States. If you contact support or use Apple-managed services such as the App Store or TestFlight, information may be processed in the United States or other countries where Apple or relevant service providers operate.
Because normal use of Verses is designed to happen on-device, most use of the app does not require sending personal information to me.
Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the app, platform requirements, or legal obligations. If I make material changes, I will update the effective date and post the revised policy here.
